Financial coverage

Good information about costs and reimbursement helps to get clarity in advance. On this page you will read how the reimbursement of care at Psychiatrie Noord is arranged.

The treatments are covered by the basic insurance and fall under the deductible. So please keep in mind that you will have to pay your deductible to the insurer. Psychiatrie Noord does not charge a personal contribution.

The rates for specialized mental health care (GGZ) are determined by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa).

Frequently asked questions about compensation

Do you have any other questions or doubts? You can always discuss this with your therapist during the treatment.

Step 1: the general practitioner

The general practitioner is the first point of contact within the Dutch healthcare system. The general practitioner helps with health complaints or refers you to a medical specialist when necessary.

A consultation with the general practitioner falls under basic care and is fully covered by your health insurance. You do not pay any copayment for this.

Step 2: referral to a specialist

When the general practitioner deems it necessary, they refer you to a medical specialist, such as a hospital or a mental health institution such as Psychiatry North.

Treatment at Psychiatry North is in most cases covered by the basic insurance. However, the mandatory deductible applies, which must be paid by you.

The rates are determined by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). Psychiatrie Noord therefore does not set these rates itself.

We send the invoice directly to the following health insurers:

  • All Dutch health insurers (with applicable deductible)

  • Aon

  • EHIC

If you are insured with Aetna, we ask you to submit the invoice yourself to your insurer. Aetna will then reimburse the costs to Psychiatrie Noord.

Everyone aged 18 and older in the Netherlands has a mandatory deductible for healthcare from the basic insurance. In 2026, this will be €385.

This means that you pay the first €385 of healthcare costs yourself. Costs above this amount are covered by your health insurer.

In addition to the mandatory deductible, you can choose a voluntary higher deductible. This often lowers your monthly premium, but it does mean that you pay more costs yourself for care.

For EHIC, Aon, and Aetna, in most cases, no Dutch deductible is applied. This depends on your specific insurance.

You can cancel or reschedule your appointment free of charge up to 24 hours in advance.

If you cancel an appointment within 24 hours of the scheduled time, we will not charge you the first time.

For each subsequent late cancellation, we charge €50. These costs are not reimbursed by the basic insurance and will be charged directly to you.
