Group treatments

Psychiatry focuses in its treatment offerings on group therapies. These group therapies are part of an integrated treatment plan.

The power of group therapy

Group therapy offers a unique form of support through contact with peers. Participants can encourage each other, help each other keep appointments, and support each other in achieving personal goals. This can range from support in maintaining abstinence to emotional support during difficult periods. In practice, group therapy has proven to be an effective treatment method for various psychological issues.

Although group therapy may initially feel tense or uncomfortable, most clients eventually experience it as a safe environment where there is room for support, recognition, and learning from one another.

Psychiatrie Noord offers the following group treatments:

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT)

In ACT there is talk about "psychological flexibility": the higher that flexibility, the better one can cope with psychological complaints (and the lower the flexibility, the greater the risk of stagnating complaints). In ACT, we try to change what we can change and learn to accept what we cannot change.
