Referrals and treatments

You can refer to us as a general practitioner or medical specialist via ZorgDomein. For consultation, you can contact us.

Psychiatrie Noord is a specialized mental health institution located in the municipality of Groningen.

We provide complete, effective, and accessible treatments with our team consisting of: psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, health psychologists, psychologists, and creative therapists (PMT, SPV, and Systemic therapists).

Referral procedure:

• General practitioner refers via ZorgDomein.

• Specialized mental health institution refers via ZorgDomein and includes the registration form as an attachment.

Inclusion Criteria

We offer diagnostics and treatment to adults 18 years and older for the following disorders:

• Mood disorders

• Anxiety disorders

• Trauma- and stressor-related disorders

• Neurobiological developmental disorders

  • ADHD

  • Tic disorder

  • ASD (diagnostics and short-term psycho-education)

• Obsessive-compulsive disorders

• Somatic symptom disorder and related disorders

Exclusion criteria

In some cases, Psychiatrie Noord cannot provide appropriate psychological or psychiatric care:

• Clients who are crisis-prone

• Clients with acute suicidality

• Clients with a long-standing psychiatric history

• Clients with addiction issues (such as alcohol, drugs, gaming, or sex addiction)

• Clients with severe aggression problems or criminal behavior

• Clients with a severe personality disorder

• Clients with a psychotic disorder

• Clients with severe eating issues

• Clients who cannot sufficiently communicate in English

Treatment process and communication with referrer

During our intake process, we will come to a treatment plan with your patient after any diagnosis. The progress of the set treatment goals is evaluated periodically and frequently. When the treatment is concluded, you will receive separate notification of this.

Any (additional) medication treatment within Psychiatrie Noord takes place after consultation and agreement with the patient and with the utmost care.

Once a stable situation has been reached regarding pharmacotherapy, we will transfer any medication checks and repeat prescriptions to you upon closure, along with the corresponding advice. If there is no agreement on taking over the initiated pharmacotherapy prior to the referral, this may possibly affect the start of diagnosis and treatment of your patient.

International students

We have English, German, Spanish, and Italian speaking practitioners.

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

If the patient has EHIC insurance (European Health Insurance Card), we will directly bill the insurer for the treatment.

Aon Student Insurance

If the patient has Aon insurance, we can treat the patient under certain conditions. For more information, you can contact us.
